DIY | Holdie Folk Dress Pattern

DIY | Holdie Folk Dress Pattern

There’s nothing like a one-off piece to make you feel special, and our Holdie Folk friends are very crafty when it comes to making their own clothes! So, we wanted to show you how to sew your very own, one-of-a-kind outfit for your favourite Holdie pal using your choice of up-cycled fabric and our special Holdie pattern! Download your pattern here (and be sure to print at 100%)!

You will need: A needle and thread, scraps of fabric, scissors, pins, your printable Holdie dress pattern.

  • 01To Begin
Begin by cutting out your printable Holdie dress pattern.
  • 02Pin It
Using the pins, secure the pattern piece to your fabric scraps. Place both pieces together so that you only have to cut out the pattern once! This will create the front and the back of the dress.
  • 03Cut It
Next, cut around the pattern using your scissors.
  • 04How's it looking?
You should now have two identical pieces of fabric that look a little like this!
  • 05Start Stitching
Place the the pieces of fabric together (right side facing in) and use a needle and thread to run a stitch along both sides of the dress like so, finishing at the armpit. Then sew a line of stitching across each shoulder. There should be three gaps without stitching at the top of dress that will create both sleeves and the neck.
  • 06Flip It
Now that your dress is sewn, flip it inside out.
  • 07Finishing Touches
Use your scissors to cut a small slit in the back of the dress like this. Then, you can secure it using a press-stud if you want to be fancy (we don't think it needs it). This is so your Holdie can pull the dress over over their head easily, we know how tricky getting dressed can be!
  • 08Done!
Now that your Holdie has her dress on, you can cut the hem to your desired length. Finally use your needle and thread to run a decorative stitch along the hem of the dress for something extra... and it's complete! You clever thing, you!
